New Monster Postings Draw 15-80% More Candidates
Deciding where to advertise is one of the most crucial parts of the recruiting and hiring puzzle. To help you make those decisions, NewHire tracks and measures candidate responses from major job boards. We then use this information to help you make the most of your recruitment advertising dollars.
Recently, the people at Monster.com woke up and realized that their 60-day job advertisement had very little value beyond the first 14 days after it was posted. Not to say we told ’em so, but…we told ’em so four years ago!
Regardless of who said what when, they’ve introduced a 30-day auto-refresh advertisement which – once posted – automatically refreshes itself on the 14th and 28th days in the 30-day posting cycle. In other words, Monster reposts an ad that is identical to your original ad on days 14 and 28, thus bumping your job listing to the top of the search results.
Does this new type of job advertisement make any difference?
Our independent data shows that the new auto-refresh Monster ads provide a significant increase in the number of candidate “Views” and “Applies” when the ad refreshed on the 14th day.
The graph below shows data gathered from a Monster.com recruitment ad for a Sales Engineer that was initially posted on 10/1/08. Notice how both the number of views and the number of applies steadily decreases after the initial posting date.

When the ad automatically refreshed on 10/14/08, notice that the number of applications rebounded to a number greater than that of the days immediately following the original post date, while the number of views rebounded to nearly that of the original post date. Clearly, the auto-refresh feature is beneficial for the visibility of your job ads.
To compare the performance of the new auto-refresh ads to Monster’s traditional 60-day ads, we collected data for four positions – two nearly-identical sales positions and two nearly-identical management positions. We posted a traditional 60-day recruitment ad for one of the sales opportunities and posted a new auto-refresh ad for the other. We repeated this process for the management opportunities, and the results were clear. The new auto-refresh postings provided 15-80% more candidates for our advertised positions than the 60-day postings that did not automatically refresh:

Going forward, all the Moster.com advertising NewHire provides includes the auto-refresh feature. Our data shows that you are getting more recruitment mileage for your money. As Monster continues to make changes and offer new products we will continue to track their value for you. So if you’ve had unfavorable results with your Monster.com ads in the past, it’s time to give them another shot.
The Best Available Talent is Out There
The current economic situation and the resulting churn in the workforce have flooded many candidate pools with highly qualified talent. Even if you’re not actively hiring, the Best Available Talent is out there, and there’s no better time to replace chronically underperforming employees whose absence would give you a feeling of relief. If you haven’t already used NewHire to quickly identify top performers, contact us and find out why 96% of survey respondents would recommend NewHire to friends and colleagues. Replace those lackluster employees and Monday mornings might just feel a little less dreadful.
