The Applicant Flood: Are You Prepared?
Just in the last few weeks there have been a slew of articles in the
business press about recruiting. All have a common theme: prepare for
the deluge…of candidates.
In the Wall Street Journal, (May 11, 2009 Page R5), Inc. and the Economist,
reporters focused on the effect of higher unemployment on the number of
candidates applying for jobs. NewHire has data to support this
reporting. The total number of candidates applying per position
increased 66% from in April 2009 compared to April 2008 (84 candidates
vs. 55). A recent conversation with marketing staff at
Careerbuilder.com revealed that currently CareerBuilder.com is seeing
over 100 views per hour for newly posted administrative jobs! If only
25% of those views turn into applicants you could see 100 candidates
apply in the first 4 hours a recruitment ad is posted.
Each article also considered different tools that small and mid-market
business can use to help manage the flood. NewHire users are already a
step ahead of the game.
The business cycle will turn…it always does. At some point, you will be
staffing up again. And, when you do, you will have an overwhelming
number of candidates for each job.
So there’s never been a better time to make a plan that will help you
hire the best available talent. Perhaps you know of a company that
could use our help? Remember to refer us by email or using this form.

- Throw a wider net – we have developed inexpensive, long-term
solutions for continuously attracting talent, using Google, LinkedIn,
Facebook
- Take your time – if you start recruiting now, you don’t have to
hire now, you can offer delayed start dates or continuing

NewHire Upgrade: automated EOE surveys, reporting and more
NewHire
applications can now include the Equal Employment Opportunity
questionnaire on Race, Ethnicity and Gender with a click of a button!
Candidates, applying for work on a NewHire application, can choose to
opt out, or can self- identify their EOE status.
And when it comes time to generate that government report – guess what…? With another click (or 2) all EOE information, from every candidate that applied for the job, is consolidated in any easy-to-use MS Excel spreadsheet.
Ask any HR professional…this innovation will save HOURS of time spent compiling data from many sources.
Just as important…when you use the “Search Candidates” feature of
NewHire to screen for the Best Available Talent, no information on
candidate race, ethnicity or gender will be returned in the search
results. Your candidate searches remain blind to these protected
categories.
This software upgrade also includes several other ’ease of use”
enhancements requested by our customers. We appreciate your feedback. Email us
about two of our upgraded features that you like, or features you would
like to see in the future, and we’ll give you one free candidate
background check package with your next recruiting process.
How do you get this upgrade of NewHire? Simply login. It’s ready to go.
